I'm interested in working in clay because I have a sense and love of the 3-D. I discovered 3-D while doing window displays for a flower shop. I love clay because of its ability to be shaped. It takes on a life of its own. I get my appreciation of color in with the glazes.
I was never drawn to painting or drawing but the lines and colors come through my pottery. I create in this style because of mostly using the wheel and the particular glazes and styles because I like tight, technical work.
I learned how to do pottery first at a summer workshop at Cambridge Massachusetts then follow up summer workshops with Elizabeth Nields in Otego. I also took two years of continuing ed classes at the School of American Craftsmen through R.I.T.
After 33 years as an elementary art teacher, I retired from school to pursue my own interests in my own time and energy
I joined MIC in 2005 and volunteered to take care of keeping the display window. Presently, I manage the arrangement of all the window and floor displays.
